I’ll give you this: the birther campaign to delegitimize Trump is vastly more sophisticated than the birther campaign Trump came to lead. It is, in any case, worth noting the parallel themes, as this is apparently the new norm of American politics. One group elects a president and the other group declares this person illegitimate on some grounds before they enter office. And this, of course, sets the tone.
We can always count on WaPo to wrap up the propaganda in a neat little bow.
As far as John Lewis is concerned, I lost any veneration for him when he cashed in on his legacy to smear Bernie Sanders’ civil rights record. This doesn’t, of course, detract from his time in the movement. It does, however, demonstrate what we might call his function within the propaganda apparatus of the Deep State.
Consider that Lewis initiated this feud with Trump by declaring him illegitimate. Then, when Trump slapped back, the media jumped on him for attacking a civil right’s legend, and so close to Dr. King’s birthday! Contemptible!
Seems pretty clear to me that that whole exchange was another part of the ongoing domestic propaganda operation to delegitimize Trump before he gets into office.
Honestly, I don’t care if you’re for or against this operation. I think it’s worth recognizing that it’s going on, rather than simply buying into the narrative.
